Beat Studies Call for Papers
MLA Convention, Los Angeles, Jan. 7–10, 2027
The Beats in LA
The city of Los Angeles was an important destination for many Beat writers. This panel
will explore the role the city plays in Beat Generation, and Beat-adjacent, writings.
Papers could consider not just how various Beats represented the city, but likewise
more sociological accounts like Lawrence Lipton’s The Holy Barbarians. Topics could
also include the work of Beat-related writers like Charles Bukowski or John Rechy.
Please provide a 250-word abstract and brief CV.
