The Book Review section of the Journal of Beat Studies is dedicated to providing insightful, scholarly perspectives on new and recent books that focus on specific Beat figures or various aspects of Beat culture, history, influence, or related events. “Beat figures” is not a narrowly defined group; these may include numerous writers, artists, moviemakers, musicians, photographers, and so on, who may be viewed as participating in the Beat ethos. Reviews are generally 2,500 to 3,000 words, but may be more or less as appropriate for the book being reviewed. Journal editors especially encourage emerging scholars to participate.
